Deciding What the Engraving Should Say

The hardest part is rarely the necklace; it is the words. The strongest engravings tend to be short and specific: a child's name and birthdate, the date you met, the coordinates of a place that means something, or a phrase pulled out of a letter. Generic sentiments fade into the background; details do not. If you are torn between two options, pick the one that would mean nothing to a stranger.

Settle the date format before you type it. Written as 06.14.2019 an engraving sets larger and reads cleanly across a small pendant; written as June 14, 2019 the same date has to shrink to fit the same surface. The same goes for names: a first name alone beats a first name plus a surname squeezed onto a heart the width of a thumbnail.

How Many Characters You Actually Get

Engraving fields are capped in length, and the cap is a physical fact rather than a policy: a pendant has only so much surface, and letters below a certain size stop reading as letters. Where a design sets its own limit, the field shows that limit beside the label as you type.

Read the limit before you write the message. When the field is short, cut words rather than shrink them — Mom, always beats a full sentence rendered at half the height. On multi-name designs the arithmetic runs the other way: count the people first, then pick the design that holds that many names. A three-name pendant and a five-name pendant are different products, not two settings on the same one.

Where the lettering sits belongs to the design, not to a choice made at checkout: some pendants engrave the face, which suits names meant to be seen; some engrave the reverse, which suits a message only the wearer knows is there. This is a mixed-metal collection, and it is worth saying so plainly. 925 sterling silver is one of the materials used here; stainless steel, copper, brass and other alloys are used as well, and selected designs are finished in gold or rose-gold plating over the base metal. One thing to know when reading those lines: silver-tone, silver color and silver-plated describe a surface finish, not a solid metal. If solid 925 is what you want, look for the material line that names it outright, on the chain as well as the pendant — and if a page leaves you unsure, ask us before ordering.

How the Engraving and the Finish Hold Up

Because the lettering is marked into the metal instead of printed onto it, the words sit below the surface and ordinary wear does not rub them away. What changes over years is the finish, not the message: a plated piece can thin where it takes the most contact, and the engraving stays cut into the metal beneath.

Care depends on which metal you chose, which is one more reason to note it at checkout. Sterling silver darkens with air and skin oils — tarnish rather than damage, and a soft polishing cloth brings it back. Stainless steel is the most forgiving of the group and shrugs off humidity. Plated finishes last longest when they meet the fewest chemicals: put the necklace on after perfume and sunscreen, and take it off for pools, hot tubs and the shower.

Each necklace is made after you order it. You enter your text, we engrave exactly the characters you submitted — capitalization, punctuation and spacing included — and the piece is finished, inspected and shipped. Nothing renders your typed words onto the pendant on screen beforehand, so the habit that prevents almost every problem is reading the field back before you add to cart: the spelling of the name, the digits of the date, and whether you meant Mum or Mom.

Standard shipping is CA$9.95 and free on orders over CA$139, with delivery in 7–12 business days once the piece leaves our studio. Every order ships tracked, with the tracking number emailed at dispatch, and several items may travel together in one parcel. If what arrives does not match what you ordered — wrong engraving, wrong item, damaged in transit — we remake or refund it in full within 60 days of delivery and cover the postage: no return shipping fees, no restocking fees, no hidden charges. Questions About Engraved Necklaces

Are these necklaces solid sterling silver?

Some are. This collection mixes 925 sterling silver with stainless steel, copper, brass and other alloys, and some pieces are plated in gold or rose gold over a base metal. The material line on the product page names what that design is made from.

Can I check my engraving on screen before I order?

Not as it will appear on the pendant. A typed personalization field shows the characters you entered and the length limit, nothing more. We engrave exactly what you submit, capitalization included, so proofread the field before adding to cart.

What happens if the engraving arrives misspelled?

If it does not match what you submitted, that is our error: we remake or refund it in full within 60 days of delivery, postage covered, no restocking fee. If the typo came in with the order, personalized items are final sale — write to us anyway and we will tell you what is possible for that design.

How long does delivery take within Canada?
